You hear it all the time, whether it is an advertisement for designer showrooms or bridal boutiques but just what exactly is a sample sale? Is it really the money saver it is marketed as? There just has to be a gimmick somewhere… right? Ah, you pessimist you. If you’re a bride that is willing to sacrifice owning a custom gown to save a significant amount on your dream dress or have a super short timeline then maybe attending a sample sale is the right route for you to take when shopping for THE dress. Hopefully, by the end of the post you will have a better understanding of just what exactly a sample sale is and maybe, just maybe, you’ll believe us when we say it really is quite a deal!
In the case of our shop, when we go to market we select various designs that we think our brides (yes you!) will absolutely adore. After selecting these dresses from our various vendors we put in our orders and the dresses typically arrive in the next 4-5 months. Once the dress arrives it becomes our sample. When you come into our boutique and try on dresses you are trying on sample dresses that were carefully selected at market!
We try to order a sample size that will fit the majority of our brides and a broad spectrum of body types. In doing so, most of our sample sizes are a 10 or 12 in bridal sizing, which, is closer to an 8 or 10 in standard women’s wear. This is why some of you have had (or will have) our handy blue clips all over your backside. We want to give you the most realistic vision of what your dress would look like on you but we do have to accommodate a range of different body types.
This is where the fun part comes in. We love our samples; they’re practically our babies. Especially this first batch because they have been with us since the very beginning however, we are growing our inventory each season and we have to let some of our babies leave the nest. We have decided to part with some of our samples by having a sample sale!
Our sample sale dates will be announced soon so keep an eye out in order to get one of the first appointments! We have a limited inventory of sample sale dresses and it is first come, first serve. We do realize that it may be difficult to move your schedule around when these dates are announced. In order to accommodate as many brides as we can during the week of the sample sale we will extend our business hours. Further information will be given about this hour extension when sample sale dates are released.
If you are a bride shopping the sample sale you will be shown our selection of sample dresses upon your arrival. After viewing these dresses you will have the opportunity to try on as many as time will allow within your one-hour appointment. If you do fall in love with a sample dress you will be purchasing that exact dress and leaving the appointment with the dress in your hands! Most brides, who are not purchasing a sample, would then have their measurements taken and have an order sent to our designers’ facilities where a custom dress would then be made. By purchasing the sample you are skipping this process and saving both time and money.
We will say that there are some other expenses that come with purchasing a sample that does not come with purchasing a custom dress. Most of our samples are significantly loved and would need to be sent to the cleaners before wearing or may have minimal repairs needed to be fixed by a seamstress. Secondly, depending on the your size, alterations may be extensive and therefore costly. If you are a petite bride our sample dresses would have to be totally reconstructed to fit your frame. However, if you are closer to an 8 or 10 in regular women’s clothing, then there may be very little alterations needed and you would be saving money on both dress cost and alteration expenses, double yay!
We hope that this article gave you a bit more guidance on whether a sample dress is the right dress for you. We understand that the bridal business can be tricky and the mix of timelines and terminology can be quite difficult to decipher. If you have any further questions in regards to the sample sale, or really in bridal brain busters at all, please feel free to contact us! We love to hearing from you all!
